So as most of you know I just adopted two rescue snake a couple weeks ago and while giving the new ball python a bath i heard a noise that i reconized.... it sounds like a pretty bad respiratory infection. just him swimming from one side of the bath tub to the other made him sound like he was gasping for air. weezing pretty often.
so heres my question; I can find a good herpatologist in the area and pay alot of money so this guy can give him a shot or four, or ive heard of some people just giving their own shots to their pets. how do i go about finding the medication and seringes for this? Since both the new snakes have RI i think it would save alot of money and i hear its a pretty simple thing to do. any thoughts on being your own vet?
I think mostly people would get the meds and needles from a vet initially but then treat the snake themselves?

I not to sure about over there but here the meds are by presciption only so you will have to take snakes to the vets to get them. Doing the injections yourself is very easy, but get a good run down and lesson from the vet when they give the first injection.

I wish I knew everything when I started out in keeping snakes, like some obviously do.
Like any other prescribed drug, any drug used to clear up a reptile respiratory infection is illegal to own without a prescription, so you'll need to visit a vet. WHEN you go, make sure you get a trans-tracheal wash and culture as well as a sensitivity test done. Otherwise, you might as well piss away your cash as the vet will just be guessing what meds might work.
Good luck and keep us posted.
thanks everyone I found a good vet in my area that my friend who breeds ETB goes to. she swears by them so wish me good luck on rehabilitating these guys!
