Re: reticulated python
Most definitely - luckily our reptile shop wont let me buy anyhting until 24 hours after i first see it, otherwise i would be very skint and literally have no space left in the house!
With all my snakes apart from the initial corn (i went there specifically to buy it) i leave a ten pound deposit and then go back to pay off the balance the next day - i know i have a very bad impulsive streak so this way i have a chance to actually think about the purchase before going ahead. A couple of times i have gone back the following day and collected my deposit instead of buying the snake. Thankfully we have a good relationship with the shop so it hasnt caused any issues.

Re: reticulated python
I'd have done it. Even after my wife firmly told me "NO RETICS" ![No](images/smilies/no.gif) I'd have brought it home and hid it from her for...like a minute and a half, and the said something like "AWWWW look at that face....He likes you! He's really happy to see you."

Re: reticulated python
We've all been guilty of "impulse" buys...as long as you are set up and able to take care of the animal though, no harm done in the end.

Re: reticulated python
i have two easy solutions to my impulses and they are as follows. I can't buy anything with no money and my fiance would kill me lol.

Re: reticulated python
Well the no money one is hard to get around....fiance's not so much. You can get away with pretty much anything if you time it right and are really sweet before and after..lol. I, being a girl, can just bat my eyes and say "pleeeeease" and he'll give in to me. Muwahahahahahaha! I once got pulled over for speeding, started sobbing, and the cop brought me a box of tissues and told me it was going to be ok. I got off with a warning...sucker!

Re: reticulated python
for a girl it is much easier to get your way than a guy (because girls can act so darn cute) but if a guy were to do that the answer would still be no and he would get picked on for at least 5 years. by the time a guy can get them to break it is no longer an impulse buy because it is at least a week or too later. i am not complaining as this has saved me a ton of money that can go into bigger and better things (like a house lol)

Re: reticulated python
BRBs are beautiful snakes, and as long as you can provide him/her with proper care, it's all good. Getting back to the original topic of this thread, though, I would never ever suggest anyone impulse buy a giant constrictor species. They are far too large, strong, and heavy, and you must absolutely make sure you can handle it before you get it. Take a look at my thread on the giants forum about the snakes I'm caring for for a friend. "Big Boy" is 15 feet and 110 pounds of solid muscle. He is very well-mannered, but still, it takes my fiance and me both to do anything with him, and he isn't exactly easy to maneuver around. I knew how large he was before I agreed to care for him, but it was still a shock the first time I saw him. They are absolutely no joke and demand respect and caution. Every single moment of every single day. It's far too easy for one mistake to be a life-or-death situation.
Sorry to be a downer...just felt I had to get that in.
