Re: buying a terrarium online

That is one sweet setup. Just put a guard over the lamp.

OR use a low heat lamp like LED or fluorescent so the snake can touch the bulb safely and then use an alternate heat source.

Re: buying a terrarium online

hmm and they do have them on that site for less then 10 bucks in all cases i can get everything i need for about 130$ 260$ if i got one for both of my snakes which i might do cause they stack. i did some researching and apparently they have a slightly unsecure glass panel sliding door problem. small snakes like infernalis's or baby corns easily slip through so you have to prevent the panels from separating. ideas?

Re: buying a terrarium online

hehe reptile reptile, go to home depot and build the cage i linked you, they are they same as what you were looking at but way cheeper, if the problem is your not good at cunstruction which dont worry, its not for everyone or you dont have tools which even I dont, home depot will cut your plywood for you, usually 3 cuts for free $1 for the rest. white mallemine 4x8 sheet cost $27 here im sure its cheeper in the states becuase everything is lol. and after that all you need is a drill and some drill bits and a few screws, the sideing tape used for mallemine is ironed on, and the glass track used is glued on, the place you get your glass from will cut that for you to. and these cages stack as well :P those plasit cages are cool because they are light but once they are all set up, your not going to really be moving them around much.

Re: buying a terrarium online

Thats what I did and I kinda suck at woodworking, but I still manage to make functional cages.

The extra wide trim was to compensate for the glass being too small.

looks good to me and at the end of the day, your looking at your babies in the cages you build, you feel That much better about having put a little elbow greese into building it yourself, and saving money is a real bonus.

Re: buying a terrarium online

that box takes exactly one sheet of MDF to build, some cheap pine moulding and a pane of surplus glass.

That whole project was about $25 to complete.

Re: buying a terrarium online

lol know. i'm going to get that but i plan on long term opening a pet shop and i would need to have slightly flashy viv's that stack and these are them. i was just trying to grab info on them for slightly later date. i have full notebooks with hundreds of notes on tank ideas (very drasticly changed when i joined this forum) and i just wanted to put something down about these vivs

Re: buying a terrarium online

Not mine, but I have to show this reptile room to you guys here... All of it hand built. The whole setup is for garter snakes.

I would be impressed by a pet shop that looked like this couple's room....

Re: buying a terrarium online

I almost asked this same question!! I really really like the looks of these cages! I was just a little shy to use them b/c the light bulb.... but I guess a guard would help.... I was going to buy 3 and separate my corn, then get another one later next yr for when they get bigger.... plus one for July future albino ball..

I think they are great looking, but expensive.. i may just switch to racks... bit if you have all these in a pet store that will show how much you cite for the animal and I would impressed as well!!

Re: buying a terrarium online

my point exactly and they have a optional divider so it's also very space conscious

Re: buying a terrarium online

Yea they look so nice, I just wish a few ppl who had them would chirp in and let us know how they work....1 thing bad, is I don't like there only being1 size... if I don't get these I'm thinking of switch to a nice little rack for 6 snakes. As that's all I plan on having... for now

Re: buying a terrarium online

All of my vivs have a ceramic heater inside the viv, as long as the guard is good and screwed totally to tne roof of the viv with no gap that a small snake could possibly squeeze through then there should be no problem.

One viv i inherited when rescuing a corn snake has got a burn mark in it from the ceramic but that was because thenguy previous had mounted thenceramic TOUCHING the edge of the viv! Thankfully he was there keeping an eye on it when he turned it on.......

Re: buying a terrarium online

i just finished building my first cage. not the prettiest thing in the world but it works fine and is big enough for the 3 snakes i have in it (of course i only had 3 when i started this project and now i have 5). i had to buy all the tools to go with it also and it still came out to less that buying a 5x2x1 1/2 and (2) 2 1/2x2x1 1/2 would have cost me ( i paid around 250 to 275 for the whole thing tools and all.
