what animals are fine on cedar? its always readily availible in petstores yet i dont know of one species of snake or lizard or rodent that can be housed with cedar chips. birds maybe?

None its a natural pesticide, thus why there are cedar hangers, closets, hope chests & it makes for good siding & outdoor furniture.
I think they like to encourage it for rodents to help keep the smell down, but all that is really required is to clean them
All about marketing IMHO
One of my biggest beefs with companies such as Hagen etc. is they know its bad but they keep on putting it out there for folks for their pets. Mark

The only time my mouse cages stink is when I neglect them and miss the cleaning.

I remember about 5 years ago I suggested Cedar on a forum,, the replies were not pleasant ones.
