refreezing?
last night i tried to feed the new snakes, they were eating mice before, i switched them to pnky rats, the males both had 1 last night  both females did not eat theirs, the pinky's sat all last night in their cage, i was going to reheat them and try again just now and if they still refuse it freeze them and try next week, or should i toss them out now. i figure ill ask first because the snakes are so small and i dont want to hurt them in anyway,or even make their first rats they eat a bad experience with some indigestion or somthing.

Well, this is just an opinion, but I'll only refreeze after a couple of hours. Or basically if it starts to smell, I won't refreeze it.

I agree, anything longer than 4 hours I'll refridgerate and try next day; if nothing in another 4 hours, I'll throw it out. Remember, snakes are WAY more sensitive to odors than we are.

I jusge their food the same as mine - would you refreeze a bit of steak for you to eat at a later time? If the answer is no then throw the mice.

hehe yes i will eat anything :P but im a bad example, to be honest im eatting a sandwich right now with deli meat i got last week, the vegis were left on a plate cut up and shrink wraped from burgers i had 4 nights ago and the cheese i just cut the dried edges off and its good to go,i wont even as much as pass gas over this meal but other people in the house would end up in the hospital lol waste not want not my friends lol i did end up throwing the P rats away,i had a funny feeling over night would be too long for the snakes so i figured i would ask 1st. thx for the help yall

Overnight is too long.. I sometimes will fall asleep while thawing out food, I give it to chomper in the morning. Savannah's eat carrion all the time. If they find a carass in the wild, they will eat from it just like most any monitor would.
After a few hours out, I will not give it to my snakes.

sounds good ill give it no longer that a few hours from now on
hey infernalis how long would a 5" baby sav be able to be housed in a 38" long 18" wide 24 " tall cage? few months im thinking like 6-8? seen some cb savs at 5" long and im thinking of getting one they are pretty much giving them away,i would like toput it in an empty tank all set up thats just sitting upstairs in the spare room/reptile room. if i get it ill build a insolated hutch outside in the back yard when its needed.Im just wondering what kind of time line im looking at.

24-30 inches in the first year... they grow very fast.

wow! that is very fast, so im looking at 3-4 months tops. i was reading some guys growth chart and i read like 1/8 " per day give or take and i was thinking no way is it that fast. but looks like it is. good to know. thx

Oh for the love of...
Dave, why the heck didn't you call me? LMAO!! Throw the darn things out!
Once you thaw out a piece of meat, harmful bacteria starts to grow immediately. It's the natural process of decomposition. After you thaw out a rodent, if the snake doesn't show interest in the first 15 - 20 mins, some people will throw it back in the freezer for a later time. I won't recommend this, but many people do it with no problems. Try to treat frozen rodents like meat (which is what they are), and ask yourself if that dead mouse/rat was a steak, would you eat it after freezing it twice? (Okay, maybe not YOU, Dave, but try to put yourself in someone else's shoes..  )
Oh, and in the future, to avoid this... try to thaw out one at a time and try to feed the fussy eaters first. If they refuse, try the next snake. This way you aren't wasting a bunch of food.

im just used to feeding my retic, I cant get the rats in the tank fast enouph for her so when i went to feed the little one i just auto thawed out all of them, i was thinking for next time doing like you said,and thaw one at a time, it may take longer but as long as they are young and finicky eaters, its what i will be doing from now on
