Macro basically allows the camera to divide what it sees into small grids. You cant really see it do it..but the camera in macro mode can then place the grids together and concentrate on the object you are trying to bring in clearer. Macro is basically for use of hard to capture shots such as close ups

It allows you to focus the image with the lens closer the object. Normal camera without a macro lens won't come into focus if you are closer than a couple of feet. With macro you can get to within a few inches.

Digital cams are great because it's just the push of a button to get into macro mode as opposed to changing or adapting the lens.

If you are looking for good macro cameras Nikon and Canon are supposed to be best and I know Sony has TERRIBLE macros so if thats what you want don't get a Sony, I can take focused macro shots up to 1.5 inches away with my Nikon Coolpix 3500, I would recommend that.

It's a camera. that particular model has been discontinued in favour of a better one (4.1 megapixa instead of 3.3 megapixal)

It uses 3.5" CD's as a storage media and does movies too, henry's sells them (www.henrys.com) but i'm sure you can find them cheaper locally
