Well Hello

Yet another new forum member.

I am currently researching everything I can about taking on a snake as a pet. The reason for this is simple. Reptile World in Drumheller, Alberta. I took the family to Drum for the first time this last tuesday. Did the dino stuff and the kids loved it but they wanted to see real dinosaurs. We happen to stumble upon Reptile World and for those that have been there, Fred is a close as your going to get to a living dinosaur in Alberta. My family also had the opportunity to spend quite a lot of time with Brittany the Boa Constrictor. My whole family loved her, Especially me and my two year old daughter who justed loved holding her.

Hmm. I seem to be rambling on. Your forum looks great and I can't wait to get to know some of you and possibly find a breeder for our future pet.

Mike, yet another HurtinAlbertan

Re: Well Hello

Hello and Welcome Mike, I have a boa and he is the most laid back snake. Even calmer than the Bp's I had. And as far as breeders go, if you are just looking for a family pet, you may check the pets section on Craigslist. But, definitely do your research first.

Re: Well Hello

Hello and welcome to the forum, Mike. I too have a boa, well several boas, and they are wonderful snakes. They are sweethearts and always have good appetites but never try to bite. My only advice is to stay away from Nicaraguan boas- they are known to be testy. My fiance has one and she throws massive "hissy fits" when she sees me sometimes. (She isn't fond of me). I can hear her across the room and she throws herself at the front of her cage...it's rather amusing as she is only 3 feet long, but still....dang.
My red-tailed boas are big babies though. There are so many beautiful color morphs and they have come down in price a lot over the past several years. I personally own salmon hypo female and a salmon hypo jungle male. I am itching for a sunglow or albino arabesque, but those are still out of my price range...*sigh*
Best of luck in choosing your new friend. You might also want to look into carpet pythons or the Children's python species.
