Thermometers

Thermometers..... I`ve been through soooo many of the bloody things! The little dial type ones you can get in herp shops or online never last more than a year. I`ve given up on those things, it wouldn`t be so bad if they were cheap but they charge a mint for them! I`ve found the best way to go is digital, although I`m dreading the batteries running out
What do you guys use? Anyone found a nice reliable and cheap way of keeping an eye on temps? I`m going to have to dive in a bit with the digital ones I think, I need a job lot of them or something because the last of my crappy dial ones are dying out now so I`d be happy to hear any suggestions and links would be great!

Re: Thermometers

I use the crappy dial ones (cheap off ebay) to keep a general eye on things - not sure about you but our snakes "steal" them - pull them off te wall of the viv and hise them in the substrate!

To back up this general temperature picture i then use a laser pointer jobby to double check every couple of days that the hot/cold temps are within "range"

Re: Thermometers

i know some folks up here use units similar to this. Plus if you can get the probe alone i hear one station can read four of them. Would be nice to keep track of multiple enclosures from one station. I'll be looking into one of these when i start up my ETB setup.

Re: Thermometers

Mmmm..... I don`t think I`d like that sort of set up. I`d rather have individual units in the vivs I think. The digital ones I have at the moment have quite large displays so that`s handy for being able to see without bending down every time. I might see if I can find more of those because they don`t take piddly little watch batteries, they take AAA`s which I can charge. I`d be interested to hear what everyone else uses though.....

Re: Thermometers

I just use your run of the mill thermo's that cost $2 as i have a laser to double check. On that though they are accurate between 1-2 degree's which for $2 is good enough for me. You do have to bend down to look at them if the cages is on the ground.

Re: Thermometers

Yeah I keep a laser too, just so I can be syre. I don`t think using just one method of reading is reliable, I`m happier taking readings from different devices and the laser is much more reliable isn`t it. I`m looking for a decent deal on a load of dial thermometers at the moment. I figure I`ll just place those everywhere, use my digitals where I can AND use the laser when I`m doing my rounds.....
