change from tub?

i recently purchased my newest addition to the family. a 3 1/2- 4 ft male pastel ball python. he came in a tub. a quite nice one however the lid can be lifted very easily and with his size if he wanted to get out he would be out. i have a mesh cage that is the same size maybe slightly larger. i think it would work a lot better. at least until i get a larger cage. should i use it or no?

i would put pictures of them but i don't know how. haha..

thanks

Re: change from tub?

a mesh cage is going to let out way to much humidity, just put something on top of the lid until you get another tub or cage.

Re: change from tub?

I wouldn't keep a ball in a mesh cage unless you have a humidity controlled reptile room. Balls may not be tropical species, but they do seek out very humid areas (rodent burrows) within their subtropical habitat in which to live.

As for holding the lid on. I have two large sub adult balls in tubs. One is about the size of yours. I keep them in large tubs (4'x1'x1') and secure the tubs with bungee cords wrapped around the tub and fastened over the top. One bungee secures my tubs enough that even I can't force a finger into them. If one doesn't work, you can try three, one in the middle, and one at either end. Just use the shortest bungee that will work.

Re: change from tub?

If the mesh lid container is bigger than the tub - will the tub not sit inside the mesh tub? No worries about humidity OR security then?
