What have we missed??
OK - Little Miss Spiny Tailed Monitor is coming to live with us in the next month or so. She is about 18 to 24 inches long and we have been told she is basically fully grown.
We have read pretty much every care sheet/book/article/forum going but are looking for any hints/tips form those of you that have experience of keeping them.
Two main questions taht i havent got a definitive answer from my reading - Best substrate? Does a basking lamp need a guard (like a ceramic in a snake viv)?
Many htanks guys!!

Re: What have we missed??
Not that I have experience with that species Rob, but monitors do have feet and claws, so a guard over any lamp is a must.

Re: What have we missed??
I know the concern with snakes is that they may wrap around the bulb and burn themselves - wasn't sure how lizards would react to the bulb - guard will be put in place!

Re: What have we missed??
looks ominous to me. Do you make your own guards rob? If so, how do you do it? I've made my own in the past and hated every minute of it so I'm eager to learn how others do haha.

Re: What have we missed??
Well - been to the reptile shop - put a deposit on the lizard so that its OURS!!! Just need to complete the set up before we bring it home but didnt want someone else taking it before we get there.
We were talking substrate with the owner while we were there and he offered to sell us wholesale bags instead of retail!! 70litres of repti-bark for £30!!! So looks like we will be using repti-bark for our critters for the foreseeable future!!
Hope within the next week or so (back willing) to have all the electrics sorted in the new vivs so our guys can all move into their new homes!! Piccies will follow!
