Gorgeous retic! I have a normal super dwarf and they are such neat snakes. They are pretty intelligent for snakes too.

I snuck my male into the house in 08. He broke the ice with my lady and retics. She helped pick out Eve in 09. They have a way of doing this.
Thanks for all the kind words folks.

Cheers

Sweet retic! She's a real looker. I use to have a baby retic that hated me. I traded him off after 50 plus bites. Never bit anyone else just me.

I have heard of this. We have been lucky enough in that both of our retics are calm snakes. I know a breeder about an hour drive from me that has 3 het albino tigers about 7 ft that are GORGEOUS but are just as agro as it gets. He will not sell them. Glad you were smart enough to relocate before it grew to a size that is harder to place being a biter.

That is were we are now as well. Need to buy a house before I can expand. Want a couple more retics. A sunfire and a platinum. Confined to one bedroom for now. Love them stacking cages!

Re: A lady tiger

Even after you get the house, expanding is a never ending project.

Re: A lady tiger

We have owned this place for 4 years, built a reptile room shortly after we moved in, and now there are cages in the hallway, living room AND the snake room.

I often stand in the basement and think about how cool it would be to have a 50 foot long 25 wide reptile room.

But the logistics of heating that space and setting it all up is impractical unless I was to open a business, then I could write off all the expenses of doing this.

Even then, I would give my Savannah a 12 by 12 room with a dirt floor, Chomper would be so happy.

Then I would build another similar room, maybe longer for a retic, so it can move around as naturally as possible.

Those two animals would take up a major chunk of the basement, but it would be worth it just to be able to allow those animals a good life in captivity.

Especially since big pythons and monitors are generally the most misunderstood and "poorest kept" animals in the pet trade.

the sheer numbers of these majestic species that never get to live a full life is very disturbing to me.

Re: A lady tiger

Well put. Husbandry I think is the main cause of their early deaths. They just can't get away from their waste unless we clean it, as soon as you see it. Most people are inherently lazy. With retics, you can keep them in a cage that some people think is too small. They spend a lot of time coiled up in the corner. "Time out of cage" is one of the keys, IMO. Especially with retics being the "smart snake". Our male is 10-11 ft. I take him out on the average about 3 times per week for 30 minutes or so to crawl up and down the hallway and snoop around the house a little, supervised of coarse. I would do it more but he is the size where the 2 person rule applies. Eve comes out almost daily. The same with our Boa constrictors. Nearly every day.

Re: A lady tiger

Is that your male in your avater?? Can you post some more piccies of him? I am fascinated by huge snakes but would never have them myself as i could'nt physically manage them.
