Looking to purchase a ball python

Hello forum,

im looking into purchasing a ball python from my local pet store...
i really am just looking for a starter set, list...

i also would like to know what size tank i should get with it... my friend has a BP up the street and i really want one... he has 2 20 gallon tanks... ones for feeding so ill try to buy that from him...

i was looking into getting 20 gal. tank but im not sure how fast snakes grow... ive been doing my research and people say to get a 30 gal to 40 gal for an adult... but how long do i have untill i have to buy a 30 or 40 from a 20...

im on a budget from around 100-150 for the supplies and 100 for the snake... i added a lil more to the snake beacuse im not exactly sure how much it cost

Check your local newspapers and craigslist for aquariums frequently, aquariums are also commonly found for free or for really cheap prices this way.

One thing you may wish to look into is adopting an unwanted ball python from a local rescue shelter.

These snakes are commonly available at animal shelters for a small adoption fee,

We keep our adult in a 4 foot long 55 gallon tank.

Growth is approximately 2 inches per month, so they get big fast growing up.

Hi Austin ! Welcome to the forum

Ball pythons like a little LESS space than you would normally give an equally sized snake of a different species. They mostly live in the underground burrows of other creatures in the wild so space is tight and humidity is slightly raised, watch out for bad sheds and raise the humidity with a water bowl at the warm end. As Infernalis says, four foot for an adult is fine, I have a huge one in a four foot tank. It wont be too long at all before you need a four foot but if your new snake is a proper baby or juvenile, you`ll want to keep it in a heated tub to save money, or a small, say two foot tank, than straight up to four feet when the snake is about two and a bit feet long. I have a 2 foot ball python in a 20 gal tank i feed her in a plastic container because all u really need. i also have a heat lamp that i have on in the day time and a under tank heater running all day with a big water dish and a hide spot and i use something called eco earth and it works real good if u have problem in the winter time with humidity.

I got my snake for 80 at petco but that was my mistake because my girlfriend uncle would of given me on for 45 and girls are more money just to let u know.
