Enclosure Disinfectant?

Hi all just wondering what a suitable disinfectant is to use on timber and glass enclosures. Obviously I will want something non-toxic and odourless, but what sort of airing time down the enclosure need after using disinfectant?

Cheers

Re: Enclosure Disinfectant?

A 10% bleach solution is generally good for cleaning everything. What I do is I put about a tablespoon of bleach in a gallon of warm water and mix it up. I then soak all cage furniture, including wood, in it for an hour or two. At that point, I rinse everything very thoroughly, and the wood I soak in just plain water for an hour or so to get the bleach out of it. For cleaning glass and hard cage surfaces, Clorox Cean-up (basically a 10% bleach solution) works wonders and you can just buy it in the grocery store. Just make sure to rinse everything thoroughly after using the bleach. With a good rinse you shouldn't really need much airing out at all.
Another good cleaner I've found is called Repti-Bac. It's got a scrub brush attached and is good and strong and cleans well. But you are supposed to rinse that off as well.

Re: Enclosure Disinfectant?

zoo med make a good all round disinfectant,it covers bacterial and viral.if i cant get hold of that,i just use a purpose sold reptile bacterial cleaner, then a purpose sold reptile viral cleaner.this means having to do it all twice,so i prefer the zoo med as that covers it all at the same time.if i'm stuck though i just use a watered down bleach solution, like willow suggested.
cheers shaun
