Sweaterbox Q's!

well ill be honest here and say that my new landlord for the summer months does not like snakes, and i can easily conceal my king since hes rather small and already has his own rubbermaid for the occasion, now im onto my BRB, my gf would like me to get rid of him because hes large, but i honestly cant let him go! so im going to put his new home in a rubbermaid temporarily until i get into my house for the new school year, i need some help on what i should use, my BRB is about 5ft long so i was going to get him a larger rubbermaid but here are my main questions any help is appreciated. p.s. my landlord cannot legally come into my room unless its an emergency but will sometimes check the windows if im gone and its raining, so they will have to be semi hidden in my room just in case... i realize how stupid i sound but these guys are my only family so id like them to stay... anywho the questions

would it be easier to keep him in a rubbermaid?

do they come in opaque colours?

ive heard they do not need UVA/UVB exposure but would being in a darker area hurt until i have a little time to take him out?

Have any of YOU had a similar problem?

Thanks in advance!

Re: Sweaterbox Q's!

get a really large under bed unit with latches.

I own my house, so I cannot say I have had that problem.

Doesn't matter what he says. Even if you have a no pets clause in your lease he can't evict you. Aslong as you don't own anything against your current towns by-laws you should be fine. Don't use heat tape for the enclosures either, as I believe it's not a product that is safe by Canada's standards. You should look this up in the tenant act and it should be in there. Or call about it.

Re: Sweaterbox Q's!

sounds great thanks guys! haha yeah... maybe ill just tell them the windows are shut before i leave lol i have a heat pad w/ a rheostat attatched so i was going to use that for heat, and thanks Aaron ill be sure to look that up, i dont believe it is against by-laws as i did some nosing around in the city's by-laws but it may have been peterboroughs... anyways i think the under the bed solution is a good idea, it can also help hide the wires for the heatpad. i was just worried if being under there for prolonged periods of time would have an adverse effect in the event i couldnt take him out. thinking it over though they do spen most of their time hiding lol :P

Thanks again everyone!

Re: Sweaterbox Q's!

just an update!

Talked to my landlord and they said they didnt mind as long as it stays in my room which is nice! but id like to get rid of the giant exo-terra tank i have him in at the moment due to space requirements, anyways are there any certain brands or designs that are better for keeping my BRB in? any info on the bin would be great, i have one from wal-mart, which seems to be decent, its not a brand name bin but i figured it will do the trick once i burn the holes in and set up a heat source with some sort of regulator!

Thanks again everyone, i learned quite a bit from you all over the past couple months

Re: Sweaterbox Q's!

I use a heat pad with feet on the bottom of the tub. I put the water bowl half way over the heat to raise the humidity.

Wow the laws in Canada are a lot different, Here in the USA if you get caught violating the terms of your lease, the landlord can evict you, keep your deposit and sue for all rents up to the end of the lease.

Before I got my own house, we were renting... We renewed the lease in October, My mom died in November and I inherited the house and property.

We moved in in February and I drove over to the old rental place every first of the month to pay rent on a place we did not even live in anymore.

This went on for many months, since here a lease is a binding contract.

Re: Sweaterbox Q's!

wow! that is different, im sorry for your loss as well Wayne, i lost my mother in 05 right before i graduated from elementary school... ive looked over most of the landlord tenant act i believe and as aaron said as long as there is no by-law prohibiting the animal in question and as long as care is being taken for the animal the landlord does not have the ability to tell you what you can and cant do as long as it isnt detrimental to the residents of the building or to the property from what i gather. it is also illegal here to go into the room without the consent of the tenant and even so it must be given 24 hours prior i believe. feel free to correct me if i'm wrong.

oh how i love Canada lol
