Percey39, not to appear rude, butwhy would you ever use cat litter for snake bedding? It is clay-based and if they swallow any they run a very high risk of becoming impacted. It also tends to have fragrances and chemicals that could be very dangerous to a snake. IMO I would stay away from it and stick to bark. You can get aspen shavings at any pet store- I've found the larger chips made for rodents work just as well. Cypress mulch is also wonderful stuff and works well for almost any snake.
Plain newspaper or butcher paper is also a good substrate for snakes that do not tend to burrow. Hope this helps a bit. I am not sure where to get aspen in England, but in the US it's in every pet store.

Re: Raven's Tank!!!
willow im not stupid i have been keeping for a long time now. The cat litter i use is 100% recycled newspaper that is odourless and 100% percent chemical free. I find bark holds a lot of moisture and can cause problems for inexperienced keepers as it had to be changed frequently, the same goes for aspen.
Also cat litter is about $14 or 12 your money for 24 litres, so its a lot cheaper than any of the products you mentioned. You dont have to throw out as much as it clumps with mess and only have to replace small amounts.
Sorry for my big rant but just had to set things straight

Re: Raven's Tank!!!
Oh ok, Percey. I know you're not stupid, I am just not familiar with paper cat litter, and when you said cat litter I thought you meant the clay kind. I really don't want to come across as mean, but I was a bit worried as I know clay can be very impacting. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Re: Raven's Tank!!!
Yeah, the kind of cat litter most use in North America would NOT be a good choice for snake bedding! Huge risk of impaction, dusty, lumpy, clumping...I could go on, lol.
On a sidenote, do you have a cat? Have you ever used the cat litter we have described? Do you like the recycled paper one? Just curious, I have a cat and I wonder if it's possible to get paper-based litter here..

Re: Raven's Tank!!!
You can get paper-based cat litter in the USA, so I'm sure you could get it in Canada. I just never use it because I have Bengals and those cats tend to pee and poop a lot.

Re: Raven's Tank!!!
It does to an extent. You still have to change it weekly with your cats, but with snakes i change every month and just remove the clumps in the meantime

Re: Raven's Tank!!!
aspen looks great i used it for a while, but it was too much hassle at feeding time (had 14 tanks using it) as my carpets were always getting bits in their mouths.some of it is quite sharp and can cause all sorts of problems.i am also lucky enough to live 6 miles away from one of the uk's top reptile vets.he told me to always squeeze aspen in my hand and if i smelt any pine fragrence to not use it as some of the stuff in pine can be toxic to my carpet pythons.your tank looks great hillsberry and your jungle looks like he loves it.
cheers shaun
