Re: Black Racer baby (From Florida)
I've encountered many adult wild black racers and oh are the fiesty. Is that what they look like as JV's? Its beautiful. Do they tame down at all in captivity?

Re: Black Racer baby (From Florida)
It "tamed down" a little, I can tong feed but I have to move slow and steady, or the snake startles.
I can pick him up a little, but not really handle him.
Personally I am fine with admiring him through the glass, Out of our whole collection we only really handle five or six snakes, the others are well cared for, but seldom handled, it's stressful to the snakes.

Re: Black Racer baby (From Florida)
I really like that first pics. As a kid at camp me and two other camper got chased by one pissed off blue racer. One kid had been poking at it with a stick. They're the fastest moving snakes i ever seen.

The patterns are almost all gone now... this Piggy eats 4-5 pinks at each meal.

Re: Black Racer baby (From Florida)
His head / eyes are awesome looking. Looks very innocent. Especially in the first pic.

Re: Black Racer baby (From Florida)
Black Racers are far from innocent.
One of the only documented cases of a snake actually pursuing a person was a black racer.
One person I know calls them razors with scales.
I like black snakes, I like snakes with big attitudes, and this little snake fits the bill perfectly for me.
The day it arrived as a wee hatchling it leaped from the deli cup and clamped onto me refusing to let go.
