update on my snake

I haven't posted in awhile but I wanted to update the forum to my snake's health.

He was having problems with breathing and mites when I first bought him. He has only ever eaten once since I purchased him about 3 and 1/2 months ago.

Well, today he is mite free, RI cured, and he just ate for the first time 5 minutes ago!

Unfortunately, I had to feed him a live mouse but he will start feeding on F/T again soon enough I hope.

Re: update on my snake

Thanks, it is a huge triumph and I am happy because it shows that I can overcome some of the bad sides of owning a snake and get them back to healthy.

I may actually begin preparing to buy materials to get my next snake, a jungle carpet python.

Re: update on my snake

Carpet pythons are one of my favorite snakes, and jungles have such great colors. Definitely a good choice! What is your current snake, a BP? They can be very picky feeders. Just a thought, when you defrost the f/t do you warm it up in hot water? A warm prey item will be a lot more enticing to a snake, especially a python, as they have heat-sensing pits. Make sure the prey is nice and warm and dab it off with paper towels so it isn't dripping (some BPs get "scared" by dripping prey and refuse it).
As for getting a JCP, carpets tend to be much better eaters. They also tend to be quite docile, but often have attitudes as babies. Do you know where you're getting your JCP from yet? Make sure you get it from a good breeder. I would not get it from a pet store.
