My Rhacs (pics)

I haven't posted any pictures in a while and I got a new crestie last night so here are some pics. Some of them not so good, but you get the point!

This is the girl I got last night, she is an orange tiger. I really like her, I'll be getting her a nice dalmation boyfriend at the next expo I think.
First pic she is partially fired, second she is fired down. She has one dalmation spot (can you see it?!) which is suprising as her father was a super dal. Her name is Corona. She's about a year and a half old.

This guy we got a few weeks ago, his name is Chip. He has a bit of an underbite which doens't effect him at all. Gives him character, haha! He loooves crickets. He's a pinstripe flame with dalmation spots. He is way fired down in these photos unfortunatley. He's about a year old.

Re: My Rhacs (pics)

This is Clyde (possibly Girl-Clyde, not sure on the sex lol). My first crestie. Quite the tubby gecko haha. It's hard to pin a morph to this guy, I tend to say tiger but sometimes he looks like a flame..I dunno. About 8 months old.

AAAAND, my favourite - my mainland chahoua! They are more commonly know as Mossy Prehensile Tail geckos. I LOVE this little guy, growing like a weed, clumsy, cute, 'friendly'...they are like little gecko-puppies!! It's interesting to watch them hunt, they are super cool. He is a Halloween baby! (oct 30th) Not sure on the sex but I *think* it's male. Still needs a name, btw..I'm open to suggestions

Just for kicks, here's some geckos on a log. [Let me tell you, it was difficult to get a photo of them both on the log and not one gecko, one tail]

Re: My Rhacs (pics)

Aww adorable cresties Jess! I just got one at the last Carlisle show. He was almost black with a bit of gray to him at the show, but now that he's at home, he lightened up to creamy tan and brown. They are awesome little guys, I love feeding him baby food off my fingertip and watching that little tongue go to town. Lick the food, lick the lips, lick one eye, then the next, lick the food, etc, etc. It's hilarious.

Re: My Rhacs (pics)

Thanks! I love hand feeding them too, they are so cute! licklicklicklicklick

Baby food isn't good for them. Common misconception. The sugars in it aren't very good and it doesn't have much nutritional value/supplementation. It really shouldn't be fed to them and I don't know why it is still being recommended..
What IS good for them is one of these diets:

a) Meal Replacement Powder/Repashy Crested Gecko Diet - This is a complete diet in powdered form that you mix with water. It has everything they need in it. It can be fed exclusively and a lot of breeders swear by it. My geckos love it. The better one is the 'two part diet', the two parts are nutritional base, and flavour. You can also get 'one part diet', which just already has flavour mixed in. It's really great stuff. It was formulated by Allen Repashy. There are also other CGDs but I personally have not tried them and this one is highly recommended.

b) CGD + crickets - In this case the CGD is mixed a little differently (more flavour, less base) and crickets/roaches are also fed. Be sure to dust your crix with calcium + d3. Cresties don't usually eat worms or anything like that. I find geckos grow faster with insects in their diet.

c) 'Smoothie' + crickets - This is the best one. Essentially, you get several non-citrus fruits (banana, strawberry, fig, blueberry, peach, etc) and blend them together, then you add yogurt. Yes, yogurt. Sounds totally wrong, right? Make sure you get non-fat, low sugar, with ACTIVE BACTERIAL CULTURES, this helps with digestion. You then add your supplements accordingly. If you are intereted in this diet I can post the actual recipie. Geckos are found to be healthier, breed better, and grow well on this diet.

Re: My Rhacs (pics)

I only give him a little bit of baby food on my fingertip as a treat. His staple is crickets and a bit of fruits like banana and oranges, although he doesn't eat the fruits all that often. Mostly they dry up overnight and I remove them. I would be interested in the recipe for your smoothie diet though. The baby food treats I was getting were organic with no artificial sweeteners or preservatives. It only lasts 3 days once you open the jar, so I was throwing a lot of it away.

Cresties are primarily frugivorous, insects are secondary in their diet. Citrus is bad for them at all please don't feed you gecko oranges.

here is the link for the smoothie, you can also eat it yourself, it's delicous! (make sure you didn't already add calcium LOL)

Re: My Rhacs (pics)

Thanks Jess! I really appreciate it. I think my fiance gave him a piece of orange like once and that was all. Honestly we've only had him a few weeks, but I had one a few years ago that lived for 5 years. He came from a pet store so I have no idea how old he was when I got him. This new one is about a year old.
