Burmese Cage pictures...

Hey guys,

I am going to build a new cage for my Bimba (burmeseme Python) and i am searching for ideas. please share your burmese cage pictures here and some comments about it.

i king of like this design:

i am thinking of making it something like that may be 3 parts, so i can put all my snake stuffs in one place and use it like a kind of a storage at the same time.

i am thinking of the dimentions as 150x60x60cm just for the enclosure for Bimba but the total height will be like 150cm.

but still i would really like to see your cages for more idea...

You are spending the money now so just go as big as you can Burms like the biggest you can get for them.

That is the thing, i have been looking for a while. and the advices that i get and the sizes of the cages that i have seen in my search are not the same. like look at the one that i have posted. it is no longer then 120cm for a grown up Burmese. so thats why i wanna see some pictures. the biggest one that i have seen till now on internet was 160cm long...

Dont we have any Burmese owners that can share their cage pictures in here?

Sorry, I decided a long time ago that Burms get too big for me!

Years ago I had a rat snake that was over six feet long; that dude was strong. I'm happy with BPs.

guys i designed a cage and it already started to get build. i gave the blue prints to the carpenter so i cant show you right now. but it is basically like this:

it is the size of 160x120x60cm it is like 2 stories. the upper part is 160x70x60 ground area which would be the main part of the Bimba but in the there is also a part in lower part size of 80x50x60 and there is like a Hole which he can climb up and down . the hole will also have a kind of door which i can lock or just open it (in case i need to use the lower part for something ) the half part of the lower part will be for cupboard that i will use all my pet stuff to put in. there are 4 lamp places in the top.

it will be over in couple of day. i am visiting the carpenter everyday to make sure everything is going well

but here is a question for you guys.... Now my Bimba is 110cm. should i let him use the whole area from the beginning or should i let him use the half of it and the time he gets bigger let him use all?

OK, first, you don't need to answer my question on the other thread about the enclosure; I see it here.

Second--is 160 cm the horizontal length of the enclosure? If not, let him have the whole thing now. If it is, you can wait awhile if you want to. The most important dimension for a Burm is the horizontal area he has to move around in, not the vertical area, as they are not much for climbing. In fact, you may find that he doesn't climb up and down much at all, though I could easily be wrong.

Make sure that all joints are really strong and all hinges & locks on doors are really strong. Try as hard as you can to pull them apart--if you can pull a locked door open or pull a joint apart, Bimba will be able to do so. If you can widen a crack, Bimba will not only widen it, but eventually (sooner or later) open it wide enough to get through. You have to think of this guy as getting stronger than you--much stronger than you.

well to tell the truth since i am making my own cage i wanted it to be kind of special. not just like the box design. thats why i come up with the 2 stories idea. and half cupboard stuff. i imagine it will be handy.
and of course it is 160cm horizontal. so it is basically it is like 160x70x60 upstaies and 80x50x60 down stairs. i also figured may be the climbing up and down thing may not work that is why i come out with the door idea. so in any case if he prefers the bigger up stairs all the time, i can just close the door and use the down stairs for anything else

so do u thing i should use the down stairs (80x50x60) for a while till it gets bigger? or it doesnt matter at all?

And thanks for the strong advices. i will be more careful about it. make it sure tomorrow. and what about the thickness of the glass. u have any warnings for it too?

Thanks for clarifying the dimensions of the cage. I think you can use the downstairs yourself and let Bimba have the upstairs for now, as his horizontal space will be about half again his body length--for awhile, at least!

Regarding the glass--I don't know what you'll have available where you are. If at all possible, avoid single pane window glass, as it is pretty weak, and only a small amount of pressure would break it. If you can get 1/4" plate glass, that would probably be fine for now. 3/8" might be preferable. Ooops, sorry--that's 6 mm plate glass minimum or 10 mm plate glass. Plate glass comes up to 12 mm thick in the states.

you could get some plexiglass too because that will give more and wont break as easily as glass as long as it is a good quality. same thickness as the glass should be fine.

yea, i know it should be half of its size to be honest i wanted to build a huge one around 250x80x80 but right now my space is not enough. i will be moving to a bigger place next year so for now i guess that would be enough.

the glass i didnt check for the plexiglass, which sounds like a really good idea but i am using 10mm plate glass, i guess that would be enough for Bimba. i am trying to get the best from a small Chinese shop. but till now everything seems fine. it will be over in 2 days.

well here is the last thing. when it is over, i kind of want to paint it. should i be carefull about anything. any chemicals that i should avoid or any stuff that i should definitely do?

The problem with trying to recommend something is that it may not be available where you are. Some paints & varnishes do contain toxic compounds. Try to find something that's labeled as safe for aquarium use; it'll probably be ok.

An option is for you to find out what's available where you are and then check with the manufacturers as well as name them here to see if anyone knows anything about them.

your burms floor space needs to be 8x4 feet. hope this helps!
