Odd disapearance
My snake has vanished, but it's enclosure was sealed tight and there don't appear to be any holes or cracks. My Mom thinks he might have been stolen, but he has been gone since yesterday, possibly the day before. I think someone like one of my siblings went in my room and maybe opened his tank and let him out and isn't being honest about it. I have looked around my entire bedroom, under chairs and couches, the dryer and refrigerator, but I can't find him...

Re: Odd disapearance
OK, first--have you checked under all the substrate? Under the water bowl?
Next, have you looked in your closet & behind books on bookshelves, behind the bed wherever it touches the wall . . . one person recently found her ball python in her closet behind something.
Look in all the dark, tight places--even places you're SURE he couldn't fit--as he probably could or could move things just enough that he could.
Also, if you can lift the top or open the enclosure door even 1/2", your python could do it, too, and get out. So maybe it wasn't one of your sibs--don't kill anybody yet!

Re: Odd disapearance
I was guessing it's an implied, "Where could my snake be?"
Wonder if Dragonesque found his/her snake?

Re: Odd disapearance
Leave a bowl of water near the heating pad and hide (make sure the heating pad is on low & has a thick towel wrapped around it several times so it doesn't get hot enough to burn the snake if he finds it).
Snakes can hide in amazingly small spaces. Do you have books in bookshelves? Check behind them. Laundry on the floor? Check through ALL of it carefully. Check through any boxes, even if they were shut. Behind everything. and I know you did it already--but do it again--snakes can move while you're searching if your searching noise spooked them.
Hang in there!

Re: Odd disapearance
I got home from work late around 1am a few nights ago.
CRAP! where is Baal! My 2 other snakes looked up as I called their names as well(all Baal)
It was dark....
I was puzzled, the door was SHUT when I got home, where could you be, I picked up all the hides, nope, I looked up under through the bottom glass. NOPE.
So I got scared(leaving the door of the cage open) I started to panic and look everywhere.
Well about 10 minutes later I hear a plastic cup fall to the floor.
What do you know, Baal is just starting to leave his cage... The cup was sitting out in front of it...
So... the lesson I learned was...
You think it is impossible for it to have gotten out....
Double check! Cause I dunno where Baal was, but he was fursure still in his cage.
Good LUCK!

Re: Odd disapearance
1. Ball pythons rarely "travel" once they're out and are usually within a few feet of their enclosures.
2. Ball pythons will ALWAYS seek heat when out. Look in warm places.
3. Ball pythons are solitary, shy animals, so they will also be somewhere really tight and restrictive.

Re: Odd disapearance
hey what about putting a thawed out mouse in the room in a bag so the ball will hunt it. drag the mouse around the baseboards first to get a scent trail.

Re: Odd disapearance
I'm sure you'll find your snake soon!
Good luck!
Kyle: Omg! this makes me laugh. I can just imagine somebody (a family member or friend perhaps) walking into a room as somebody is dragging a rat in a bag around the perimeter of the room.

Re: Odd disapearance
He wasn't in his tank when he disapeared. I have a 95 gall tank with newspaper for bedding, a round log for a hide and a large water bowl. I checked in the hide and under all his bedding and water bowl, and no Manda...He can't have pushed the tank open by himself, as there are locks and bricks on the tanks top, there are no cracks or holes anywhere so what really gets to me is how he got out...I don't think he slithered out when I was looking for him.
Agian, i've checked all the heat sources I could think of and still can't find him. I don't even know if he's still in my house. If he did get out, i'm scared he might be dead...We just had a huge cold front...

Re: Odd disapearance
Well you should really have a more secure top to your tank than bricks. Also your snake would be better off with two hides in the enclosure.
As already stated, check the small areas around the enclosures. They don't travel far.

Re: Odd disapearance
If the tank was locked as you said then the snake didn't escape, it was let out. You should check with people you live with. Look for any small objects that are moved or out of place, that could be a sign of where your snake is or has been. They can curl up real small so check places you wouldn't think the snake would fit.
Good luck and best wishes
Kenny
