Re: hi peeps

Hello and welcome Leeroy.
Be worned once you buy your first snake you may be planing on turning a spare room into a snake room. I have ten snakes now and five of those are females that are ready to breed.

Leeroy! You are SMART! Actually finding out about these creatures BEFORE getting one is a great way to go; now you can prepare properly so you don't kill your snake right off the bat!

What kind of snake are you interested in getting?

Re: hi peeps

A ball python (BP) makes a great first snake. If you do a search for "Ball python care" you'll find out what they need in the way of enclosures, humidity, temps, etc.

Do lots of reading before you decide what type of enclosure and equipment to get, and then buy all the equipment before you get your snake. This is wise no matter what type of snake you decide to get.

I really like BPs because they tend not to bite and will lie quietly in your hand when you want to handle them. Some other snakes (e.g., colubrids) never sit still, and some may be bitey (e.g., green tree pythons). However, as long as you know what to expect and are willing to work with the snake's needs & temperament, you will enjoy having a snake enormously.

I've had all kinds of snakes over 30 years, from nonvenomous to venomous and from diurnal to nocturnal. I've enjoyed rough green snakes, a Pueblan milk snake, and my BP the most. The milk snake was fun to watch during the day, and I miss that some with my BP (I snake-sat the milk snake for two years, and it is now back with its owner). On the other hand, I really enjoy the temperament of the BP and its handleability, and we stay up late enough at night to see it out some.

Have fun reading and deciding!
