Tub for my BP

Okay, I am getting really frusterated with my tank setup. It's at my boyfriend's house right now and he doesn't mist as required, I have to go over there and take care of her. WHICH TO CLARIFY, I DO NOT MIND! It's just that I can't be over there all the time and the agreement was he would help take care of her if she was over there.
I love naturalistic setups, but really the health of my snake is much more important to me. Right now she is in a 30g with a red heat light, her temps are fine but her humidity can drop pretty low and stay there til I can come over, and I am more than fed up with it. Soooo, my question is, what size tub should I be looking for? I want to do a kind of semi-naturalistic setup, with some plastic plants etc. I am going to buy a heating pad as well obviously.
My snake is getting on to 2 feet, she isn't there yet but it won't be too long. I'm not really sure what I should be looking for so help would be appreciated.
There is the expo in 2 days (yay!) so I can always get some stuff there if it's avaliable..
Thanks!

Re: Tub for my BP

For tubs I currently use Sterilite. Easily found at any wal-mart. I have some smaller ball pythons in the #1843 model and the larger size I have is the #1846 model. Both are only about 6inches high so you'd need to find one with some more height for that. Tubs usually aren't found at the show (I'm sure you've seen) but you could find some other things there.

I want to goto the show but I don't know how I'm getting my butt back home.

Re: Tub for my BP

I don't know that i'll be able to go to the expo. I'm planning to but I'm in homework up to my eyes! Let me know if anything insanely interesting happens there.
Hmm about the containers. I'm really not sure. Aarons suggestions seem to be nice and clear... maybe you can find out the qts on the website?

Re: Tub for my BP

Thanks Aaron. How do you put the ventilation holes in the tub? I've heard it's best to burn the holes, what do you do?

I'm really excited to go to the expo, I'm getting a Rhac. Chahoua We'll see if anything else catches my eye! Hopefully you both can make it. Don't worry Kendra, I'll take lots of pictures!

I know im not aaron but the best way i've found is with a soldering iron that is a pencil type to burn the whole right through.

Right, soldering iron. I was trying to remember what it was called, I've used them for art projects before.

Re: Tub for my BP

I just take an ice pick or a nut pick, heat it in an open flame, and stab the box a bunch of times. (You have to reheat occasionally, but it works!) Someone else--maybe on this forum??--said to just get a small drill bit & drill the holes.

ya but the drill will leave some sharp edges and eventually the burs left over from the drilling could break off in your snake or break off and your snake could eat them.

Re: Tub for my BP

Missaugga(sp) Expo is what you guys are talking about?
Im going, but leaving all forms of plastic at home! Can not risk coming home with a nice ball, putting my self in further debt haaa.

See yall there!
Cheers

Oh, and to put holes in plastic, what I do, asto not ruin my sodering iron....
I use pliers, hold a screw firmly, with a butane lighter I heat the screw to near red, and just push it through.
Then I drop the screw in the sink, and use a clean one to not stink up my apartment with burnt rubber.

Re: Tub for my BP

I use a soldering iron. I just bought a cheap one from RONA and it's made easily a hundred or two hundred holes. You can use a drill. I know Mykee chooses to use one and I'm going to try to do it. I have heard that Sterilite tubs tend to be weaker and more prone to chipping and cracks than rubbermaids so the soldering iron might be a better choice.

I am hoping to go. I probably will. I'm going to take the public transit straight from work. (I get off at 7:30am and work downtown) I'd tell you to say hi but you don't know what I look like hahaha

Re: Tub for my BP

Feeders is the sole reason I'm attending. I may pick up some connectors for my heat tape but otherwise I SHOULDN'T be picking up any animals.

If I do see something I fancy it would be ball pythons or some sort of blood/borneo and there's a small selection of colubrids I want.
