Exclamation Help Please!!

Hi, my name is Erica. I'll explain more about me in another post but for now I need HELP!

I just got a 3 month old cal kingsnake, I put a locking mess topper and used a heavy book to weigh it down. Well, he escaped and I don't even know how to start looking for him.

Re: Help Please!!

First and foremost, ensure you buy a better caging lid.

Secondly, look in areas around the enclosure. I have found that a lot of snakes don't travel too far once they escape. Check very small, dark places and warm places.

A couple methods I've heard from people are to place a heat lamp out at night with some food under it and the snake will find the heat and food. If you do that, place a hidebox there too so it will be secure enough not to flee when you come walking by to check on the spot.

I've also heard that some people will place baking flour around baseboards and doors and follow the trails from there. Although it's a very messy job.

Re: Help Please!!

I have a Cali King, that once got lost too. I knew it wouldn't stray far, so i placed a container with a small opening on the floor near the tank, and I put two pinkies inside. the snake naturally moved towards food and i caught him the next evening.

He had hid under the fridge (cause of its warmth) only a couple meters away.

A heat lamp might draw it out too. figure out something to bait the snake into the open

It is true that the snake won't move too far away from where it was lost.
