other paint choices

Hi there:
I am looking for an alternative to the now discontinued varathane colours in plastic. I am in the process of building a rack system for my 5 corns and 2 beardies out of plywood, however I had planned on using vcip but as I have now phoned many stores and lots of paint companies and none will "take the risk" of telling me if their product is suitable. one even stated the did not want to risk having to replace my animals. If anyone has suggestions i would appreciate it.
