how do I find critters?

Hi all. I'm new to this. Can anyone give me some advice as to how to find snakes in the wild? I'm in the SE USA, searching in the woods near a local lake where I've heard there have been some snake sightings.

Thanks!

depends on what kind of snake you are looking for, some can be found under logs, or rocks, hiding in weeds on the lake shore, or up in tree's. research some of the regional species, and go from there.

Re: how do I find critters?

Well...I'm looking for just about any kind. Some of the species I know of that can definitely be found in the area are black ratsnakes (locally known as "black snakes" - probably the most common species), ringnecks, copperheads, northern watersnakes, eastern gartersnakes, rough greensnakes (locally called "grass snakes"), black racers, and eastern hognose snakes.

Thanks for answering!
