Exclamation dremora is doing something strange

in the last few weeks that she has not eaten she poiints her head up in the air and opens her mouth wide like shes yawning. i put a mouse in her tank the other day and even tho she watched it like a hawk all she did was point her head upwards and open wide like she was yawning..whats up with that/ the only substrate i use is paper towels so i know shes got nothing caught in her mouth. is she maybe sick?

Re: dremora is doing something strange

Is there a wheezing noise coming from her? Any mucus around her nostrils?

It could just be a yawn. Although I've never seen a snake yawn as often as you seem to describe.

Re: dremora is doing something strange

thanks but shes got no mucus and no wheezing. seems healthy except shes starting to lose weight and when you hold her her scales seem to be ridges instead of smooth down, i think from the weight loss

Would you stop holding her so she might actually eat again for you.

Re: dremora is doing something strange

There is something as overcare and I'd beware that you're fairly close to doing that. Snakes, in particular ball pythons, are pretty hardy animals. They don't need to be treated so carefully. They aren't really social creatures, they like to be left alone. When I had my ball pythons I'd go weeks without really handling them. Move them for cleaning and that was it. They were fine. Champion eaters.

Re: dremora is doing something strange

My ball python did the same thing, it didn't eat for about two months. After doing some research it appears to be stress induced. I found my cat sitting in front of it's cage for hours on end (I work all day, my roommate notified me). I moved the cage, and covered the front with a blanket while I was gone, and it's doing fine now.
