substrate suggestions...thanks

i was using some bedding the pet shop gave me but dremora got some wood shavings caught in her mouth last time she fed with it in her cage so i switched to paper towels..good thick ones~~ i just seem to recieve mixed messages about the paper towels, are they a good substrate or not? some say they are good and some say they harbor bacteria. i change mine out every few days to a week and clean out the tank with this disenfectant spray i got just for snakes and lizard tanks. shes shed all the shed over her eyes but now shes got some coming off the back of her head ..incomplete shed..this sucks...i am working on the humidity level. i need to get a rheostat, which i will get tommorow. i will be glad when it gets to nicer weather then i will have less problems with the tank temps. thanks for the advice whoever gives it!

Paper towel works fine you just have to put a few layers down and change all of it instead of scoop away.

thanks chuck! i was using just one layer but these are kinda thick like cloth and i just misted the tank often during the day to get in the moisture

im using paper towel for my ball python and i havent had trouble with it

Paper towel all the way. Super easy to clean, and sanitary. It may not look the most natural, but it's about the snake...

Yeah for baby's paper towels are awesome! i wont use anything but that until they hit the size where its time to plop them in a 20g tank then well thats another story lol and well repti carpets on but not as sanitary if you only have a few snakes and don't mind taking the time to scrub the snot out of it or have a steam blaster... and i only used that when i had at least 2 sheets for each tank then I'd take them and steam clean them its a little more work with the carpet for sanitary reasons but it works good as long as you'll put in the sanitary time

well i am getting ready in the next month or 2 to buy her a bigger tank and get some better way to heat and keep humidity up. she escaped this morning but only got about a 15 min. head start and we found her after turning the apt. upside down behind my matress but before teh wall in that recess there. you gotta understand, my boxspring and mattress sit on the floor not on a frame. scared the crap outta me and now i got bricks on both sides of the tank. so i guess its time for a bigger tank..huh?!

so my question here is ...what kind of substrate do you advise to use in the bigger tanks? also right now i have a heat lamp that i use during the day to keep the heat up and i keep paper towels in hide damp for a humid hide. i mist the tank prob..3-4x a day. we are needing to get a rheostat. i am thinking of buying a humidifier for the apt but come summer here we recieve very very high humidity so would only need it in the late fall and winter.. any advice would be appreciated..so ramble away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well some peopel prefer the shredded pine i dont like it at all cause i find it extreamly dusty, i use pine chips as i dont feed in the tanks i like the pine chips and havent had a problem with them myself
