Visionariums

I really like the look and style of these and the fact that they're stackable. Anybody tried them? Are they snake-proof (i.e. snakes can't escape)? Is the overall quality pretty good?

I own several of these and love them. They are snake proof but not 100% snake heating friendly unless you know how to use heat tape. Other then that they're great for small snakes. Also the top will allow heat and humidity to escape so if you get one then be sure to cover it up. If you decide this is what you want and I can tell you how mine are set up.

Define heat pad. Are you meaning the under tank heaters or a normal average human heating pad??????

You can use a under tank heater if you have too. But you must buy a heat regulator and temp gun in order to control it so you don't over heat the reptile and kill it. Or melt the bottom of the cage or warp it.

UTH and got the regulation covered. When you said that, I was scared the bottom was made of plastic or had a weird texture or something that wouldn't work for UTH.

Just out of curiosity, I've never used heat tape, would you not need some sort of regulator for it? Also, if you have tricks for these, I'd love to hear them

What are you planning to put into the cage? If you do a heat tape or even the UTH then be sure you have a temp gun and a Rheostat or something to control the temperature. I can only give tricks when I know the full story.

So what reptile are you putting in the visionarium?

We have 3 '07 hatchling cornsnakes that are in 10-gallons now. We've ordered the visionariums and already have UTHs to go in each of them. I don't use temp guns, but use digital thermometers w/ probes that measure the temps for the cool side and the warm side and humidity. I wasn't aware the bottoms were plastic. That's part of the reason I was asking, but I guess I didn't specifically ask that. Oops. I'm nervous about the plastic and heat, but I'm guessing if you've used them with heat tape that it'll be fine. Plus, corns don't need it THAT warm.

If your just putting corns in there then the bottom should be fine.
But there is a gap between the glass that the little one might excape through. So if they're small enough to squeeze through then you may want place weather stripping in between the two panes of glass. I had a neonate rattle snake escape that way. Didn't realize the little bugger could squeeze out.
