I have read the book a few times. It kind of takes your mind on a trip and convinces you to try to find a 30 foot snake as well.

i read this book a cpl of years ago, thought it was ok, but it made me sick about the 9ft retic they threw into a trash can full of old tires, poured some petrol into and set fire to it. he describes with some detail the sound of the burning snake thrashing around banging it's head against the sides. bstard
cheers
paul
