dislocated ribs??

I bought a ball python about 2 months ago and everything has been fine until now. I noticed a few days ago that his spine is sunken in about two thirds of the way down his back. I don't have a camera so i cant take pics, but i can describe it pretty well.
He is about 14 inches long and about one inch in diameter. A 1 inch section of his spine is sunken in about 1/4 inch lower than the rest of his spine. the ribs in that section are pushing out his sides abnormally and he is keeping that portion as straight as he can all the time, even when he is in motion. It looks as if something has been dropped on him, but as far as i know nothing has been. Could this be caused by him climbing the side of his tank and possibly straining to hard causing his ribs to dislocate? I am afraid that if i feed him while his back is "messed up" that he will hurt himself even more. any advise would be greatly appreciated.
