I'm not sure what you mean by 50 gallon by 17. Do you mean a 50 gallon aquarium, or do you mean a 50" by 17"?

I've seen 2 ways of calculating the required size. One says that the length + width should be at least as much as the length of the snake. The other is one square foot/foot of snake length. Less active species (like a lot of boids) can be housed in smaller cages, but bulls are fairly active.

If it's a 50 gallon, it is most likey 36" X 18 ". That's good for a snake that reaches about 4.5'. Your bull will likely reach 6' or so, so I would want something with AT LEAST a 3'X2' floor space to accomodate it at full size. Even that might seem a little small if you end up with a large adult, but it's probably okay.

If it's a 50" X 17" (never heard of this size, so I doubt it), you might be okay.

An adult Bull's a big snake. I'd go with a 2 X 2 X 4 long enclosure. Mark
