Our New Gravid Females Arrived

Michelle and I are back from Boston, Massachusetts with the new W/C, Female, Gravid (2) Bp's.

What a gorgeous pair and very mild for wild caught plus being stressed from all the travel.

We got to Delta Dash office in Boston about 12:45 AM. It's about an hour and a half's drive from where I live. We asked for our package and the guy behind the counter asked what the live animals were. By the way, this is the best time to go into Boston because there is no one out that time of night, except for the tractor trailer that sounded his air horn behind Michelle driving her car and scared the bejeebers out of her, including a few choice words.

Anyway, the guy goes out to the warehouse and gets the package, opens the door just wide enough to pass the box through with his foot. The guy is terrified of snakes and I got to open the package to make sure their alive.

After getting the box open we fine the Bp's well packaged and with heat packs. The shipment went very good and Reptile Locator's did an excellent job shipping. I recommend them.

In case you didn't guess already, Reptile Locator's is the outfit I got the BP's from. His name is Randall Ellis and kept in contact with me all the way through the shipment and after wards to make sure the BP's were OK.

Michelle has some proposed names of Delta & Dawn, Delta & Dash or Big Momma & Bertha.

[move]News UpDate: Michelle decided on Big Momma and Big Bertha.[/move]

Thanks, this will be our first time incubating ball python eggs and even though the importer said they were captive bred from africa, I consider them W/C. Maybe I'm wrong in doing that.

I like your site it is most helpful as this forum is.

We found a Tick on one of them. :bugged:

So Michelle gave them both a betadine bath and washed them really good. They took well to the bath and were very calm.

We are very anxious for them to lay their eggs and are preparing for them with a couple of incubators.

Hopefully we can get them to the vet for a check up before they start laying eggs.

Good luck with them but I wouldn't fuss with them to much at a vets place before they lay. The stress may be too much for them to deal with and something may go wrong. I would wait until they lay. I may be completely wrong but that would be my thought.

So did they lay? I would suppose that this will not be good because you shippped them while gravid from africa! That is a NO NO when snakes are gravid!

Cheers

I hope for the best!

I wish you the best of luck with them. God knows with W/C you'll need it....

"Farmed" would be the proper term for them. Most folks group "farmed" with "wild caught" anyhow. They take ("poach") them from the wild & then start "farming" them. Can't believe they shipped gravid females, but doesn't real surprise me coming from such folks. In addition to the tick how many mites did you find? I'd get full fecals done on both of them right away to check & see what they are packing "inside" as well. Hopefully with all the stress they willl still lay fertile eggs if they are indeed gravid & hopefully will feed for you as well. Also hope they are fully quarantined for at least 3-6 months away from the rest of your colection to prevent the possile spread of unwanted pathogens. The fact that they actually came with ticks means that they have likely been exposed to all kinds of nasty things. Mark
