As long as they have a hiding spot and proper temps, there's no reason for a snake to get stressed in larger enclosures. I usually start my snakes off in the same enclosure I plan to use for them the rest of their lives, and haven't had any problems. For instance, my Florida Kings (about 13" when I got them) get started in 50 gal's. and don't get stressed. The main thing is providing hides, and good temps.
