are these temps ok for ball python??

Ive set up my cage which is about 2.5feet long and 1.5feet tall. The temps ive been getting are 86degrees in the cave(hide) on the warm side and 76-78degrees in the cave(hide) on the cool side. I am only using a heat pad. Are these temps ok for my soon to come ball python? Any info will greatly be appreciated! THANKS!!

No. 90-95 on the warm side and 80-ish on the cool side.
Just curious, didn't Mr. Favelle give you the "exact" temps that you inquired about in your thread with the same title?
If Jeff's advice isn't good enough for you, I can't imagine who's will be..

I use human heat pads from Goodwill and can get to 95F quite easily. Heat tape would be more professional and probably safer.

No, heat tape is not safer because it is not complete manufactured and is not CSA approved. We use it because of easy on the rack and seems to be not of much choice. If I house only one or two snake, I will use human heat pad. I also use the Zoo med repti heat cable and doesn't feel good.

i just measured again today and it was 88degrees in the hide on the warm side and 76-78 degrees in the hide on the cool side. Are these temps any better for a ball python??

Yes i appreciate his advice i was just wondering whether i need it even hotter/cooler than what i already have. I didnt think i was supposed to have exact same temperature. I HOPE THAT CLEARS THINGS UP FOR YOU.

Thanks for all of the help guys. I have finally got the temps right. Its 82 on the cool side and 91 on the warm side. All I did was add a basking lamp. THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP!!!!!

Unless your ball python floats, a basking lamp is fairly useless, and may eventually do more harm than good. I would strongly recommend you purchase a book on the captive husbandry of ball pythons.

its not really a basking lamp more like a heat emitter

If you have the right temp on the warm and cool side, you don't need a lamp. I been fool when I got the first ball and use a lamp, then I found heat pad work better and ball doesn't like bright light. Took the light away and never look back.

i use two stick on thermometors and two probe thermometers. I use the stick ons to read the air temp and i use the probe thermometers to read the surface temp.

The heat emitter is still sending heat down from above similar to a basking lamp. The ball python needs surface heat at 90-95 degrees at the warm end and 80-82 degrees at the cool end. Buy an EXO-TERRA under tank heat pad, but you must also buy a dimmer type of controller to control the heat pad or a thermostat so you don't cook your snake.Two hide boxes, one at the warm end and one at the cool end. Humidity should be around 60%. Your heat emitter may acually lower your humidity. Your enclosure should be a rubbermaid underbed storage box, approx. 33"x 16"x 6", for a large adult. Shoe box size for hatchlings, 23"x16"x6" for sub adults. These containers make the snake feel more secure, and your heating and humidity goals will be reached. I think that's it; Oh, and don't feed live!
