This is typical of some of the Fl. kings we used to find on the west coast of FL. (Pinellas Co.) Much more black than most.

Cranwill, this particular strain has very little red as compared to most FL. Most lose all of the red as they mature and the "black" lightens too. The ones like in this pic stay black and yellow. Some resembling an eastern king. I'll try and find some more pics.

Well honestly, most are peninsula intergrades which are supposedly getula x floridana. This "strain" (pictured) holds much of the eastern (getula) look. I have however found many in nearby counties that appear much more "Brooksi" (floridana). Len Krysko has some that are very black w/ almost chain like pattern. This particular snake pictured is from one of those dark ones X a more familiar looking one. Within 100 sq. mi. you may find bright yellow, to dull brown, to almost black individuals.
