if your afraid of geting bit try to find an older king snake. not all babies bite but iv had quite a few bite the heck out of my hands. even with the tiny little teeth they have it bled a little and stung. babies are just more scared of every thing and take a while to get use to moving around and being handled. even adults can bite if they want to be left alone, hungry, many reasons. just remember that any thing with a mouth can bite.

I find that their bites don't hurt at all. In fact, i don't think i would know mine was biting me unless i actually saw him do it. Also, if your afraid of bites, make sure you don't get a boa or a python anytime soon. If you want to know why just look at their teeth compared to a kings or corns. Well, good luck and have fun, make sure to post some pictures when you get one.

are you saying ALL boas and pythons bite pinto? exactly how much experience have you had with colombian red tail boas or ball pythons. i find it almost impossible to get ball pythons to bite except WCs and boas, i just can not get them to bite me. not unless i wanted to hold onto their food or something.

ive never had any captive snake bite me except during feeding and that was my fault both times. it is true that a boa or pythons teeth are a lot larger than a kings or corns and i agree that you cant even feel a baby colubrids bite unless you see it. i was just bitten this weekend by a 3 foot wc black rat and it bit me once and i couldnt even feel it. theres really nothing to be nervous about. cb snakes are usually very calm even if they are babies.

My experience with cali kings is...most of them aren't reliable temperament wise, one day they are fine, the next they're crapping and musking and biting the crap out of everything. If you get a baby, there is a very high chance that it will musk you...a bit less likely to bite but still likely to...I prefer the bites...nothing like washing your hands 5 times and still smelling like snake excretions.

Baby kings can tend to musk and/or bite. These bites do not hurt. Well handled adult kings likely wont bite defensively unless you are doing something seriously wrong in your handling, but some have VERY impressive feeding responses. I have had several feeding bites from cal-kings. I have never had prey scent on my hands when this has happened. When it comes to feeding, many kings use a "bite first, ask questions later" policy with just about anything that moves. Feeding bites really dont hurt all that much either, although they can squeeze and constrict for a while before letting go. Their teeth are designed for holding, not tearing, so it's a bunch of little pin pricks, a little bit of blood, and not much else.

Well I'm not afraid of getting bite, in fact, I'd like to see what it's like. I was just curious.

I've been bitten by 100's of snakes (probably more LOL) & baby snakes don't really hurt much at all, but subadults & adults DO. You can all act as tough as you want LOL, but that is the truth of it. If a 3 ft Black Rat bit you to quote someone above, you would know right now & it would bleed. Adult Colubrids can give a pretty nasty bite, especially a Kingsnake that is not letting go & trying to eat you. Quite often they will strike so hard that they will break teeth off in your hand & leave a few in that may take a week or 2 to get out. CKs with the exception of the odd one are not mean, but just nervous & they grow out of it quickly. They do have a very serious food response & yes some think that all moving flesh is food & do bite to find out. Some realize right away & let go, others continue to chew no matter what & have to be forced to let go. I have CKs that have such a strong feeding response that they will even bit their own tails & will not let go & if not made to do so will literally start eating themselves LOL. In reguarsd to musking etc. this is a baby thing. Very rarely does an older snake do so, unless it was not reared from a baby in captivity or did not have enough time spent with it. Sometimes if you really scare or aggitate them they will but not very often, very rarely actually. Again there are certain specimens that never really settle down either despite continual gentle handling. Once CKs get past the "baby stage" they behave themselves pretty well in general. Mark
P.S. in reguards to Boas & Pythons, baby BPs are super wimpy & ball up not bite, but the odd baby boa can be Hellspawn LOL & usually Hog Islands are quite bitey as babys as are all tree boas & most all other baby pythons except Childrens, spotteds etc.

Lrptls, i abosolutly did not meen to imply in anyway that boas or pythons always bite. I was simply saying that if you look at their teeth, you will notice that they resemble pins, and that when you do get bit by them, you will bleed a lot, and it will be quite painfull. I was hoping that 'Colubrid Kid' would understand that pictures of peoples hands covered in blood are usually results of the style of teeth that boas and pythons have, and that he has no need to worry about bites like that even from a 6 foot king. Also, i have plenty of experience with redtails, and balls, and i don't appriciate you trying to emply otherwise. I am hoping i simply misunderstood what you where saying.

I had baby rosy boas earlier and i was bit by a bunch of them at the same time when i stuck my hand in (my fault) you cant really describe it because it feels like a real short needle is going into you but it doesnt hurt and doesnt leave a mark! Its wierd, you have to feel it yourself.
