leo not eating, help!

I bought a 6 month old leo at the RD show, this leo hasent eaten since i bought him from the show ( Aug 27th ) every night i have attempted to feed him and every night he ingores the cricket or butterworms (he has smelled one butterworm), some even sit right in front of his face, then i thought maybe the cricket was too big so i went smaller, no luck.

the leo is in a 10 gallon tank, on paper towel. The warm side is 85.4 and the cool side is 80.2. He has a cave that he doesnt come out often and also tends to stay in the cave on the cool side, i dont know why he isnt eating but the next reason i suspect is beacause he has only eaten mealworms and was brought up on them. (i will be going out to buy some in later today)

im getting a bit worried about this guy any help would be great.

Travis.

It's only been a few days, so no worries! Mine didn't eat for almost 2 weeks when I first bought them. They take time to settle down and de-stress. All you can do is make sure that you are giving them a great habitat to settle into. I would put a water dish in there at the least, and put the worms in a dish for him to try overnight. Often they won't eat while being watched, atleast when you first get them. You will know that he's eating if he's pooping.

When I first got mine, they were really skiddish, anytime anything moved in the room, they would run like the devil into the nearest hide.

The temps sound fine, what are you using for caves? They like something that is low, almost so that it touches their back, as it helps make them feel secure. I use the clay bottoms that you put under clay pots. I chip an entrance at one side, and they seem to love it.

Leos have been known to go months without eating...as long as they don't have serious weight loss, or any other health problems, then it's ok.

Another possibility is if it has some sort of parasite...but I am betting it just needs some time to settle in.

Good luck with the leo!

he always has access to a water dish 24/7 ( all my reptiles do ). and i do leave worms in there with a worm dish all night then take em out in the morning, i use 2 exo-terra desert caves one on each side and its about 1 or 1 1/2 inches from his back.

thnx for the reply

Travis

Well, the hides I use are only about 1-1.5 inches high, so they are lower, but those that you are using should be fine.

I would just give him time..

By the way, what end of edmonton are you in? I grew up in Edmonton, and miss it a lot!

Yep, if things don't pick up in a week or two, then I would start worrying. I grew up in the west end (2 blocks west of West Edmonton Mall), and then moved to Riverbend. I have an aunt that lives in Millwoods.

Good luck with your tremper!
