het pied traits

ive been looking for information on what the traits are to look for in telling a het pied from its normal siblings.
ive found alot of people saying you can tell a het pied apart from a normal but they dont explain what to look for.
Does anyone here know what to look for?

thanks

-Pat

I wouldnt base what you're buying on any visible traits..I have seen a few hets that have odd patterns, but its deffinetly nothing to look for when buying. You'd be better off looking for a reputable breeder.

Again its basically just a smudged pattern somewhere on the body. Or really something you would never see on a normal. This could also be caused by incubation temps and all that so you deffinetly dont want to put all your confidence on that.

Some het pieds do look different. The difference is hard to explain. Some do have lines on the sides of the belly but not all of them do. I have 2 100% RDR het pieds one has the belly marks one does not.
Last year I produced my first pied with them. I have also seen these marks on snakes with no pied blood. So buy from a reputable breeder that you know has the gene. The only time you try to see the markers if you are buying a possible het. Then you need to look at the whole clutch and see if any look different. If they do then check to see if they have the lines on the side of the belly. That is your best bet.
My first possible het pied girls will be big enough to breed this year and I hope to prove some out. And then I will have some data to see how good I am at picking out the hets. Most of the girls I picked as hets are growing slower then the ones I picked as normals... of course I will breed all my possible girls to my pied to prove them out. If I don't get pieds at least I will get 100% hets
