New Blacks!!!!

Hi guys, well I managed to obtain a nice pair of adult black blood pythons. They aren't as black as some of the ones on here but they're beautiful in they're own right. They're dark orange eyes are stunning and the jet black along the side of the male is gorgeous! They should make some sweet a$$ babies next season!

Does anyone else in Western Canada work with these guys?, or anywhere in Canada for that matter?

I'll try to get some pics up sometime (maybe)

Thanks

Ryan Johnson

I'd be cautious about these - the orange eyes usually only occur on borneos, and there have been a LOT of borneos sold as "black bloods" in both Canada and the US. I'd love to see pics, especially if you could get some closeups of the head scalation.

Thanks for the heads up Ken . Since I got them I sort of had my doubts. They are quite dark brown , darker than any borneo I've seen, They are also quite short ( 3.5 maybe 4) as well as puppy tame ,which seem to be characteristic of blacks. These guys acually look very similar to some of NERDS blacks. I will try and borrow a friends cam, and get some headshots.

oh also they don't have any yellow on them instead, the sides are sort of greyish off white.

thanks Ryan

I ltook a look at NERD'S site and found a pic that looks EXACTLY exactly like my female, minus only the criss cross on the head. I'm thinking if my female is a true black then my male is definatley. anyways take a look at this pic ( NERDS and tell me what ya think.

thanks Ryan

Hey Invictus,
Sorry for the correction about to be made, but your comment about the orange eyes occuring only in Borneo's is absolutely wrong, as all of my blackest of the blacks, and I think that everyone here know's that I have some of the blackest blacks out there from Tim Meade blood line to Jeff Hartwick etc., and they all have the orangest eyes out there. (Including the orange heads that I hatched out this year too). If the picture shown of the short-tail above is one of your own, I'd say that that is a 100% bonafide Black blood with gorgeous orange eyes, just the way they are meant to be.

Out of all the Borneo's and one Sarawak that I have, there is but one that does not have golden colored eyes. As they don't have the orange eyes like the black bloods do, and these come from VPI, and the other from Bob Garby (Sarawak). The orange eyed male comes from Bob Clark.
Below is a perfect example of my point. No Borneo in this girl!

I didn't say it only occurs in Borneos, I said USUSALLY. The true blacks tend to have a very dark orange (if they have orange eyes), whereas the borneos have the brighter coloring. I was simply putting out the heads up beacause I've seen way too many borneos being sold as blacks.

Yep sounds right to me Ken. Usually blacks either have super dark orange eyes, or yellow from what I have seen.

I'm about 90% sure that I have real blacks on my hands

I took a close look at their heads and found that the anterior pair of parietals are only in slight contact unlike borneos who's are usually, if not always in full contact.

also add in the facts that these guys have VERY dark orange eyes, are only about 3.5 in length , and are puppy tame, and NO yellow on their bodies.

The head scalation and dark eyes give me high hopes of these being real.

thanks, Ryan

Hey Ryan, I would take the advice of someone who actually keeps the snake your asking questions about over someone who doesn't and the pic of the black above is a prime example of eye colour for a black blood in my opinion. I keep both borneos and red bloods and neither of there eye colour even comes close to the orange seen on true black bloods. Stick to your corns Ken!! LOL

Nope, Ken is a very knowledgable guy. I would take advice from him anytime. Also Ken has ran into this problem of identification between these species and I feel he knows quite a bit about the issue. You don't have to own a black to know about them.

I'm not calling my short-tails blacks just yet BTW.

And MY personal opinion is that Ken knows a heck of a lot more about bloods than you do~! Do some reasearch...last I checked, Ken has his own bloods. And whether it be Curtus, Brongersmai, or Breitensteini, he knows his shi...stuff~!

Thanks guys. And headdown, maybe you should KEEP your head down and your mouth shut. I've kept a lot of bloods and borneos, and have done more research than you can imagine. And FYI, I currently keep 3 bloods, and they are not the first that I've kept in my collection.

Hey,
Here's your comment "the orange eyes usually only occur on borneos". I think that the comment was pretty clear and if not meant to be so, then I too was confused by it. To me, it still sounds like the impression you give is that Borneo short-tails, are the only ones with orange eyes, and that some, and not all black bloods have orange eyes. I still get the same reaction from it. No offense meant by the clarification.
