From Dr. Fry...world's leading expert on colubrid venom:

"Clelia almost certainly would not be able to cause a human death. While potency of many colubrid venoms is on par with many elapids, the venom delivery is much less efficient than say an elapid and the venom is generated as needed rather than being stored in a pair of drawn and ready syringes. We haven't specifically looked at Clelia yet but its certainly one of the ones planned for. "

I know nothing about their care, but thought you'd find that tidbit interesting.

I have a friend who has an adult Clelia. Takes 4 foot DOR snakes weekly, and has quite incredible venom...

Their venom absolutely destroys kingsnakes.

Babies will take lizards.. mice... snakes, and are about 15" at hatching. They prefer reptilian prey as babies, but when they get older they have a preference for rodents. Still, they eat snakes if offered...

You don't need a license to keep one, but shipping wise, the seller treats a Clelia just like as if it was a rattle snake... only shipping it a certain way.

I saw a couple 2005 babies for sale... 400.00 each.. pretty cheap.. some people ask over a grand for a hatchling.
