Too big???

Is a 20 gallon tank too big for my young ball python Maria?

As long as you offer her multiple hides and some fake plants...she'll do just fine. The most IMPORTANT thing with baby ball pythons is to make sure they feel SECURE in their new home.

a tank may not be the best option for your first attempt at caging.. a rubbermaid or custom enclosure would be a better option for your ball... at least until you get used to the needs of your snake.

He recently kept his BP in a rubbermaid though switched back to a aquarium, I am not sure why exactly.

switch back.. youll have an easier time keeping heat and humidity up.. that also may be the reason he didnt eat for ya.. to much stress
