Somewhat O/T - Baby Sparrow Question.

This baby bird is in my garden, being fed by a pair of sparrows. I've never before seen a baby sparrow with white patches like he has. Is this normal? Any young ones I've seen had pretty much the adult colouration, but for all I know, they might start off with lots of white.

not sure if this applies to canadian birds
