Louisiana pine snake.

I came in to position of a 4’ male LA pine this week. Anyone on this site had any experience with them? This completes my set, I now have all the pines. While researching them, I came across this website. They seem to think that may be the rarest snake in North America. I would have guessed the San Fran Garter, but I am not really sure. Seem the LA pine is not offered federal protection like the SF Garter and the Indigo, but I found another website http://www.fws.gov/southeast/news/20...agreement.html that also makes the claim they are among the rarest and hopes to garner federal protection for the species.

You got any KY Pines? They are the Holy Grail of herping in this state!! The female Will Bird has is incredible. I wish I could find where he has that pic stashed...

Oh yes, not only do I have one, I have one that is over 7 feet. He is my favorite colubrid. Unless I am showing my ignorance here, there isn’t a recognized KY pine species. There are three isolated areas in the state where Northern Pine Snakes (Pituophis m melanoleucus) have been collected. This big guy is a northern, but I did not collect him myself, so I am unsure of his original locale. Are there certain colors, patterns, or markings on the KY locale pines?

Here you go... read THIS, it has the pics and the story of the female he caught.

Whether or not they are pure Northern pines, I couldn't say. I do know that he and his herping buddies have been wondering about it....they have been setting traps in order to attempt to find another. I believe they want to do a genetic study on them if they find any more.
