question about the classifieds
I know the default setting is to only view messages within the last thrity days, but even when i set it to from the beginning, the oldest ad that shows up was posted on the 30th of april. i realize that it is useless to have old out dated adds but what exactly is the sytem in which they are dealt with. because IF i had placed an add on the 29th and it was deleted the following day, i would kinda be a lil ticked off. Is there anyway to just make the adds expire after a certain number of days instead of cleaning it out at the end of each month?(if thats how its done)

What's the difference between making the ads expire after a certain number of days, or deleting them twice a month? Any ad you posted at 11pm the night before the clean-up or expiration would still be gone... same result, different route. You'd probably be miffed all the same.
Anyone who takes the time to read the rules knows that the clean-up happens. Timing your ad accordingly will prevent the " i would kinda be a lil ticked off" feeling.
You'll find the complete explanation stated in the sSnakeSs.com Classified Forum Rules.

sSnakeSs.com Classified Forum Rules.
Do NOT post more then 1 ad, per 2 week period, for each species of animal(s) you have for sale. If
you post the same animal for sale more then once in the 2-week period, your ad will be taken down.
-At the end of each 2 week period (the 15th and 30th/31st of every month) the Classified Ads will be
cleared. After they are cleared, feel free to repost your ad.
-If you already have an ad in place for an animal, do NOT put up another one.
Do NOT reply to your own threads to move your post up, you may reply only to update the ad in the
event something changes (price, etc.) or to say that the animal(s) have been sold so we can remove
it.
No 'blanket ads'. This means combining different types in to one ad, such as mixing lizards with
snakes. Please post animals/products in their own appropriate forums.
Non-herp related products are strictly prohibited! Articles DIRECTLY related to Reptiles only.. This
does NOT include Camera's and Freezers, while they are used in the herp community, they're not
directly related.
When your animal(s) has sold, please state that its been sold in the thread so the post can be
deleted.
If you are a bigger breeder or sell alot of animals in our classifieds, it is encouraged that you
support the site and buy a banner ad, make a donation and/or upgrade your photohosting account.
Animals to be advertised are limited to reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and feeders.
If you registered with a fake or unknown email adress i suggest you change it to one that you
actually use or you wont get any emails from people inquiring about your animals.
Buy responsibly! sSNAKESs.com is not responsible for anything bought or sold in our classifieds.
Thank You, sSNAKESs.com Administration.

the difference being that if you WERE able to set an expiration (im not sure if you can or not) of say 14 days after the date posted, it would allow you to post an ad on the 30th or the 14th or a day or two leading up to those days with out having to repost it again. how could it be posted on 11 pm before the expiration date if the message doesn't recieve an expiration date until it is posted i was just offering a suggestion to maybe make things a little easier.

I understand as well. The town I live in has an online classifieds section. After you post the add (regardless of the day) the add deletes itself after it has been posted for 2 weeks.
So if the add was posted on the 4th, it would delete itself after it expired on the 18th. Seems like then things would stay up to date without getting old adds as well. And it would reduce the amount of work for the mods to clean everything out manually.

LOL yup. If we were able to configure the classifieds like that we wouldn't have to be manually cleaning stuff out :P

I guess that answers my questions.
Continue on then with how you do things. People just need to understand how it works then.
