if you had a choice between a vison cage, or a rubbermaid, wich would you choose?

im not an expert but i would pick the vision cage cuz i just hate rubbermaids, i would rather be able to see it sometimes than have it stored in a container like its food or something. downside is the visions are kinda on the expensive side.

Bloods are like Balls...not visually active snakes. They prefer darker enclosures if I am correct. I know that Ken has ALOT of experience with bloods. I would say a rubbermaid. Why waste your money on a vision cage when you are just going to have to upgrade it in the future anyways??

I wouldn't say a lot, but I have had my fair share of them.

For a baby, rubbermaids are just the cat's pajamas. Easy to maintain humidity, nice and secretive for the snake. However, there is no rubbermaid on the market big enough for an adult. The 6' vision cages are probably your best bet when it gets to be about 3 years old. The problem will be this - at about 2 years old, a rubbermaid will be too small, but he won't really make use of the 6' vision cage. Bloods have this really nasty habit of always staying on the cool side of the enclosure - sometimes at their own peril. (I actually know of more than one person who this has happened to!) Use your discretion, but I would say go with a rubbermaid as a baby, a 4x2 cage when it's a jeuvenile (after 3 feet of length or so), and a 6' vision cage when it's an adult. Unless you end up with a freakin' huge blood (over 7'), in which case, you're back to the ol' custom enclosure.

it would be cheaper to make a custom enclosure than to buy a vision cage so that might be something you would want to do

i have a juvi male about 1 year and 4 months old at 32 inches, if i went with a vision cage, i would get a 48"X28" how long to you think it would take him to grow out of that.

Depends how big he gets. If he stays 5 feet or under, you're set for life with that cage. If he gets to be 6 feet, you may want to consider moving up to a 6' cage.

Anyways, IMO rubbermaids are best for smaller bloods, and I also find that working with bloods from the top is a heck of alot nicer than working from the side. You can see the whole animal, and you dont have to worry about reaching into a cage where there is not much room to maneuver from a smaller front entrance. From the top, you can see what your dealing with and have more room to move. However, in the future I plan on getting some vision cages for bloods I get. I also do agree very much that bloods are dumb and go to the cooler side often, and I have also seen an animal die from this. One of our females is pretty bad for this(spends about half here time on the cold side).....we have the cool end of the cage heated to just above 80F.
