They are certainly strong, impressive animals, and even the small ones seem a lot larger when they put their muscle behind it, but for the most part, Bci can be safely handled alone as long as certain precautions are recognized and adhered to. I'm only 118 lbs and I handle all my boas alone for the most part and do not feel as though I am putting myself at any elevated risk.
As for sizes, Bci come in a range of sizes. Colombians typically stay in the 5-8 foot range, Hogs are around 5-7, other insular forms 4-6, Central American in the 5-7, and Mexican from 3-8 (there is a dwarf locale of Mexican Boa... the Tarahumara Boa that is around the 3' mark). Most Bcc typically stay in the same size range as Colombian Boas do. Short-tailed Boas (Bc. amarali) are also smaller snakes, I've never heard of them exceeding the 7' mark, most seem to be in the 6 range.

Be a little careful when buying any of the so called 'Dwarf boa's'. I handled a Craw Kay(sp) dwarf on the weekend that was about 8ft long and massively thick set and heavy. The thing was huge. Just be careful what you buy!!!
