Not too much to breeding rats, once the female is pregnant it usually takes about 30 days for her to have her babies, you can take the male out of the enclosure if you wish, because he will breed the female right after she has her babies if he is allowed to. Here we keep many of ours in groups of 1.4 or less, depending on the size of the cage they are in. The females will help take care of eachothers babies, sometimes the males will even come and keep them warm and be a part of it all, or they will stay in a separate part of the cage away from the female and her babies.
