compact flourescent lights

can plants thrive using compact flourescent lights? I got a used aquarium hood but it has incandesent light fixtures and I was wondering if these floursecent lights would work.

depends on the specie. msot common "house plants" can live on CF lighting. they are usually red-medium in colour temp, unless you buy specific ones.
