testy leo

my girlfriends leo is very testy. whenever you reach in the tank to try and take him out he lunges at your hand. does anyone have any ideas how i can get him out of his tank without freaking him out. he already tried to bite me but it didn't hurt he is only a few months old. i just don't want to freak him out. i want him to get used to being handeled. any help would be awesome thanks

Young leos are skittish, it's quite normal to be scared if you're the right size for a snack. They'll outgrow it in a few months, so I wouldn't worry right now. Try to let him walk on your open hand, don't grab him (too much like a predator from the sky coming down at him). Let him learn you're a good guy and he'll come around. Also, try to keep handling to a minimum until he's about 5 months old, when they're younger they are more fragile and easily injured.
