Why isn't anyone inerested?
Hi everyone, at the show my friend brought several hog islands and no one bought one. What do you guys think of them? What could be the reason? I find these one of the most beautifull species.
Thanks,
Nuno

they're cute, but they're not as high on my wish list as viperboas, guyan, or BRBs

I'd love to get a hogg island, but the $300+ price tag is too high for me...

I think price is probably a factor, though I wasn't at the show so I don't know what his prices were. I mean in general with a Hogg compared to say a common Boa. It can be quite the jump in price. Plus I think a lot of people go for the color of say a Suriname or Guyana over the "washed out" look of a Hogg. So I think as with any snake it comes down to preference and affordability.
I personally want to add some to my Boa collection within the next year.

Jeff he was asking 400 and thats probably why, I would price mine for about 300 or so... some people pay alot more for Emeralds and they're "just for looks" cause not too many can be handled.
Lisa I've never even heard of a viper boa do you have any pics?
I find them fascinating!!

I have some pics which i will be posting later on, I did manage to get one at the show but it died the next morning. I got a few pics of her the night before before i soaked her (she was very dehydrated) but I can't deal with editing them to post right now.

$300 for a boa is just too steep for me. But I think they are great boas.

....
Emmies also go for more because I can count the number of successful breeding in this country on my two hands. No way an animal that underbred in the market is going to be cheap. And there's a reason they haven't been bred much. They are HARD!! And we should all give the people who work with them a pat on the back. Seriously.

I didn't buy any Hoggs at the show because of the price, but I already have 1:1 hoggs that are both hitting the four foot mark and growing fatter by the month. I'm crossing my fingers for a successful 2003 breeding season with babies for 2004. I'm investing my money in enclosures and proper husbandry equipment for the two I already have. But if I had a million dollars..more piggies for me, they are a wonderful boa and a true eating machine!

Hahaha for sure! Anytime I get up in the night I hear "whack", it's Peanut striking at me through her rubbermaid in the dark...I jsut say "hello to you too Peanut". She's got food on the brain the whole time she's in her cage, and try to get it open when you have a rat in your hand is a whole adventure in itself....lol
